Furnished apartment for a business assignment in Paris

7 min read By the Belvie team

A consultant, a lawyer or an executive sent to Paris for a few months does not look for an apartment like an ordinary tenant: they need a furnished home, ready to live in, available quickly and with no long-term commitment. For an owner, it is regular, creditworthy demand, provided you offer the right property and the right contract.

What an employee on assignment in Paris looks for

The needs are almost always the same, and they explain why an ordinary furnished apartment does not always fit:

  • A furnished, equipped home where you can drop your bags the same day: bedding, equipped kitchen, reliable internet connection, a place to work.
  • A convenient location: close to the assignment site or well served by public transportation.
  • A short, adjustable stay: a few weeks to a few months, with the option to extend or shorten, as we detail in our article on flexible housing for an employee.
  • A frictionless arrival: no heavy rental application, keys handed over on the planned day, a contact who answers.
  • Documents suited to the employer when the company pays: contract and invoice in the company's name, as in our article on the corporate housing journey.

Which contract to choose for a business assignment?

Two contracts suit an assignment of several months. The choice comes down to the term and to the room for maneuver you want to keep.

Criterion Mobility lease Standard furnished lease
Duration From one to ten months, non-renewable One year, tacitly renewable
Eligible tenant The tenant must show a mobility reason, including a temporary assignment as part of their professional activity No conditions
Security deposit Prohibited Allowed, up to two months' rent excluding charges
Tenant's notice One month, at any time One month
Getting the property back Automatic, at expiry Notice to be given, with a reason
Rent control in Paris Applies Applies

Our guide to the mobility lease in Paris details the conditions, the term and the pitfalls, and our comparison furnished or unfurnished rental helps you choose between the regimes.

Do not confuse them: an employee on assignment is not a tourist, and these contracts are not a short-term rental of the Airbnb type. Tourist rentals follow other rules (registration number, annual limit on nights, authorization for change of use), detailed in our article on tourist furnished rentals in Paris.

What the apartment must offer

The pitfalls for the owner

  • Turnover. An assignment rarely lasts more than a few months: each departure brings back the listing, the viewings, the inspection and the cleaning.
  • Vacancy between two assignments. If you manage directly, it is at your expense: see the real cost of vacancy.
  • The mobility reason. Without a stated and substantiated reason, a mobility lease risks being requalified as a standard furnished lease, with the term and renewal that come with it.
  • No security deposit in a mobility lease: in case of damage, you have no sum immediately available.
  • The rent. In Paris, rent control also applies to a furnished rental let for a few months: see our guide to rent control.

Renting to professionals on assignment without managing the turnover

Managing a succession of tenants on assignment yourself is a real job: listings, supporting documents, move-ins, move-outs, restoration work. Many owners prefer to hand this part over to an operator.

The Belvie model: we take your apartment under guaranteed rent and rent it to professionals on assignment in Paris (consultants, lawyers, executives, company employees), never to tourists. You receive a fixed rent every month, whether the apartment is occupied or not; arrivals, departures and inspections are on our side. See how guaranteed rent works →

Frequently asked questions about housing for a business assignment

Yes. In a mobility lease as in a standard furnished lease, the tenant can leave by giving one month's notice.
